Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
Cookies: 1/4 cup solid vegetable shortening 1/4 cup softened butter or margarine 1 cup brown sugar 2 large eggs 1 cup mashed banana 2 cups all purpose flour 2 tsp. baking powder 1/4 tsp. baking soda 1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon 1/4 tsp. ground cloves 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
Icing: 1/3 cup butter or margarine, softened 3 cups powdered sugar 2 tbsp. lemon juice 1/2 tsp. finely grated lemon peel
Directions
For Cookies: Beat together shortening, butter or margarine, sugar, eggs and banana. Stir in flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves and nuts. Cover and refrigerate 1 hour. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart onto a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes. Cool. Frost with icing.
For Icing: Cream together butter and sugar. Stir in lemon juice and peel. Beat until smooth and spreadable.
Makes about 3 1/2 dozen cookies.
