Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
3 tbsp. finely grated orange peel 2 cups fresh orange juice 1/4 cup sugar 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract 2 tbsp. triple sec 6 large eggs 1/2 cup half and half pinch salt eight 1 inch thick slices Italian bread 3 tbsp. melted butter
Sauce: 3 tbsp. butter 2 tbsp. sweet orange marmalade 1 tbsp. triple sec
Directions
Whisk together orange peel, orange juice, sugar, vanilla, triple sec, eggs, half and half and salt in a large bowl. Place bread slices in a single layer in a 13x9 inch glass baking dish. Pour egg mixture over bread and turn to coat. Cover and refrigerate 4 hours or overnight.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Brush a large baking sheet with melted butter. Place soaked bread slices on prepared pan, spacing 2 inches apart. Bake 5 minutes. Rotate pan and bake an additional 5 minutes. Turn bread slices over and bake 5 minutes. Rotate pan and bake an additional 5 minutes until bread is puffed and golden. Serve toast hot with sauce and syrup.
For Sauce: Combine butter, marmalade and triple sec in a small saucepan. Cook, stirring, over low heat until sauce is melted and combined.
Serves 4.
