Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
3 tbsp. vegetable oil 6 medium white onions, peeled and sliced 8 cups beef broth 1 cup water 2 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. garlic powder 1/4 tsp. pepper 5 plain hamburger buns 10 slices provolone cheese 10 tsp. shredded parmesan cheese
Directions
Heat oil in a soup pot. Add onions and cook 15 to 20 minutes until translucent-don't brown. Add broth, water, salt, garlic powder and pepper. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 45 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 325 degrees. Slice of tops of top bun to make the same thickness as the bottom bun. Place buns on a sheet pan and bake until golden brown and crisp, about 15 to 20 minutes. Set oven to broil. For each portion: Spoon 1 cup soup into an ovenproof bowl. Top with a bun half. Place a slice of provolone over and sprinkle with 1/2 tsp. parmesan. Broil 5 to 6 minutes until cheese is melted and starting to brown. Serve immediately.
Makes 10 cups.
