French Toast: 4 large eggs 1 cup milk 3 tbsp. sugar 1 tsp. vanilla extract 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon 8 thick slices day-old french bread 3 tbsp. melted butter
Sauce; 2 tsp. butter 1/2 cup brown sugar 3/4 cup water 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon 3 apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
Directions
For French Toast: Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Brush a baking sheet with melted butter. Whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla and cinnamon in a medium bowl. Place bread into egg mixture, turning to coat and allowing bread to soak up some liquid. Place bread slices in a single layer on the prepared pan. Bake 12 minutes. Turn over and bake an additional 12 minutes until bread is browned and puffed. Spoon sauce over and serve immediately.
For Sauce: Combine butter and brown sugar in a medium saucepan. Heat until butter melts. Add water, cinnamon and apples. Cook over low heat, 8 to 10 minutes, until apples are tender.
