Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
Pie Crust: 1 cup all purpose flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1/3 cup cold solid vegetable shortening 1/4 cup ice water
Filling: 7 medium apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced 1/2 cup sugar 1 tsp. ground cinnamon 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg 1/4 tsp. salt
Topping: 3/4 cup dark brown sugar 3/4 cup all purpose flour 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg 1/3 cup cold butter, diced
Directions
For Crust: Mix together flour and salt in a medium bowl. Cut cold shortening into flour mixture until coarse crumbs form. Add water 1 tbsp. at a time, stirring with a fork until a dough just forms. Shape dough into a disc and wrap tightly with plastic wrap. Refrigerate dough 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Roll out dough on a floured surface to a 12 inch circle. Fit dough into a 9 inch pie pan. Trim excess dough, leaving a 1 inch overhang. Fold overhang over and crimp decoratively.
For Filling: Mix together sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt in a large bowl. Spoon filling into the prepared crust.
For Topping: Mix together brown sugar, flour and nutmeg in a small bowl. Cut in cold butter until coarse crumbs form. Sprinkle topping evenly over apples.
Bake pie about 35 minutes until filling is bubbly and topping is lightly browned. Transfer pie to a rack and cool completely.
Serves 8.
