Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
1 pkg. Dry yeast 2 T. warm water 5 c. all-purpose flour ¼ c. sugar 1 T. baking powder 1 t. baking soda 1 t. salt 1 c. shortening 2 c. buttermilk
Directions
Dissolve yeast in warm water and set aside. Combine dry ingredients in a very large bowl. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add yeast mixture and buttermilk to dry ingredients. Mix well. Drop by teaspoon or tablespoon full onto baking sheet or pan. Bake in preheated over at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes, or until lightly browned.
Put unused dough in plastic bag. Dough will keep in the refrigerator for 1 week.
If you prefer cut biscuits, do the following: Turn out on floured surface. Knead about 1 minute, then roll or pat out and cut into biscuits. Bake as directed above.
