Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
Coney Island Sauce: 1 pound ground chuck 6 ounce can tomato paste 1 cup water 1 tbsp. sugar 1 tbsp. prepared mustard 1 tbsp. dried minced onion 2 tsp. chili powder 1 tsp. worcestershire sauce 1 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. celery seed 1/2 tsp. ground cumin 1/4 tsp. pepper
Hot Dogs: 2 ounce hot dogs, about 7 1/2 inches long hot dog buns chopped white onion shredded mild cheddar cheese
Directions
For Sauce: Brown beef in a 2 quart saucepan, breaking up into very small pieces. Don't drain. Stir in tomato paste, water, sugar, mustard, dried onion, chili powder, worcestershire, salt, celery seed, cumin and pepper. Simmer, uncovered, 30 to 45 minutes until thickened, stirring occasionally. Cool, cover and refrigerate.
For Hot Dogs: Bring water to a rolling boil in a 2 quart saucepan. Remove from heat and add desired number of hot dogs. Cover and let stand 10 minutes. Microwave sauce until steaming hot. Microwave buns 10 seconds. Place hot dogs on buns.
For each hot dog: Spoon 3 tbsp. sauce over top of hot dog. Sprinkle onions over sauce and top with cheese.
